When Nature Feels Far Away

Lean into

your breath

and feel the way

moss and oak and

dandelion become you –

however far

or near

and hold your breath

until you can’t

and notice the moment

she forces her way back in.

This is

nature

weaving her way through you,

stitching you with cosmic thread

into a tapestry you never were

separate from.

And still

feel the rivers of grief

for all the ways modernity

ties and teases you into disconnect,

marches on towards endless progress

in denial of the turning

of our Great Mother’s wheel.

Feel the fire in the deepest parts of you

burning for another way –

and the winds, too,

of change that always come.

Sense the way her seasons

all of them

cycle through your body

your mind

the beating heart of your humanity –

so that while our ancestors’

wild and rooted ways may be distant

nature has not, ever,

and never will

leave you.

For even when the breath

ceases to grace your body

when nature says it is your time to go

you will become the Earth another way

and the great cycle will

go on.

Seek the ancient ways

and let the seasons

and landscapes

and elements within you

guide you along your way

so that every step carries you home

to a place you already belong.
